Coach Wade brings a
wealth of experience to the Soccer House both as a player and a coach. Coach Wade served for the last 3 years as the Head Boy’s Soccer coach at Clear Lake High School. At Clear Lake he was responsible for guiding both Varsity and Junior Varsity programs and leading them to the school's first ever Conference Championship. Coach Wade now serves as head goalkeeping coach for the men's and women's soccer programs at Iowa Central Community College and is the top assistant for the 7th ranked men's side.
Coach Wade first met Ermels on the east coast in 2005 when they worked together at the prestigious sports camp, Camp Cobbossee. Coach Ermels quickly identified Wade as a player with incredible talent and extended an invitation for him to attend Waldorf College on a soccer scholarship. Wade did not disappoint, he served as captain for the 3 years he attended Waldorf while earning All-Midwest College Conference honors. And was an All-American. Coach Ermels’ remarks on Coach Wade’s time at Waldorf…“Matt was an exceptional player, he was a multi-sport athlete coming out of high school and we used those talents everywhere on the pitch. In three years at Waldorf Matt saw time as goalkeeper, center-back, and center-mid. There wasn’t a position he couldn’t play.” In addition to his accomplishment on the soccer field Coach Wade was also a 1st Team All-District football player and in 2002 he was named Sanger High School’s Defensive Player of the Year. Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Wellness from Waldorf College and is certified in CPR and basic water training.
